you are not alone! by Lizanne Pitt

I met Lizanne from clayjarpeople (and here) years ago on twitter and she’s great, for the first time this year though I got to meet her in person and she’s even better, she totes get’s the awkwardness and doesn’t make you keep up conversation if you don’t want to. I’m glad I got to properly meet her before they relocated to New Zealand though the move has meant I got an awesome parcel from across the waters haha. Here’s her story, share the love, leave a comment and be supportive <3

What makes you so special?
I’m superwoman nah, actually I’m not special I’m just a normal mom who’s kicking depression’s ass most days.

liz and chrisWhen were you diagnosed?
It started after my son was born in 2010 but I was only actually diagnosed (due to feeling embarrassed and awkward to ask for help) when my daughter was 18months… In 2014.

Do you take anything for it?
I used to take Serdep for it, but the weight gain that I experienced made me feel worse so I weaned off and spoke to my naturopath and went onto 5htp, DHAs and Magnesium with a side of Vitamin B complex. This works like a charm most days.

Any special coping mechanisms?
Crochet. And I tend to isolate myself, so Netflix or a decent book where I can just shut down in. I also find an massive amount of strength in my faith, I honestly couldn’t cope everyday if not for the strength God gives me.

What does the number 9 smell like?

What colour is Tuesday?

If you could give someone out there ANY advice, what would it be?
Don’t be embarrassed to ask for help, no one was made to do it all. Even if you just get counselling that helps a heck of a lot more than trying to do it alone. There is no shame in needing medication to do life. It’s takes a lot of strength to admit you need help.

What saying get’s you through most days?
“I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”

Tea or Coffee?
These days I’m a bit over coffee… Wellington coffee is too much… So I’m into herbal teas.

  1. Dear Lizanne, this is incredibly brave and unselfish of you. I know it takes courage to stand up and say anything (on any subject!) in a public forum. Thank you for your honesty. Thank you too for acknowledging that it is Christ who strengthens you. We all of us face battles and I know that without Christ in my life I would not be where I am. I had a brief spell many years ago when I felt I could not cope…..I had a good Christian friend who encouraged me to go for help and I thank the Lord for her counsel and support – she is in glory now and I’m sure she’ll be blown away by how many friends she helped! Be strong in the Lord and know that He will provide all you need. I’ll also keep praying for you xx
