Happy Birthday Mickey! [giveaway]

Okay so now that I’ve got that stuck in your head… (you can thank me later) let’s get to what this post is really about.

And man he looks good for someone almost a century old don’t you think.

Here are some fun facts about Mickey you might not know, or maybe you’re a big fan and already do. But I’ll admit I learned a few things about the little mouse that got that damn hotdog song in my head.

  • Mickey Mouse was inspired by the pet mouse Disney had as a child.
  • Mickey was originally going to be named Mortimer!
  • Mickey Mouse is the most popular write-in candidate at the voting booth. (I would vote for him!)
  • Mickey Mouse was the first cartoon character to ever speak. And what were his first words? “Hot dogs!”
  • Walt Disney said that Minnie and Mickey Mouse are indeed married, although they keep it private and they do not share a home.
  • The first two Mickey Mouse movies cost $2,500 to make.
  • Mickey Mouse was the first cartoon character to earn a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
  • In the 1970s, Mickey released a disco album which went double platinum. (listen to it here)
  • Walt Disney originally held the patent for Technicolor, meaning that Disney was the only animator who could make cartoons in color.
  • Mickey Mouse only has four fingers! Walt Disney felt that five fingers resembled a “bunch of bananas.”
  • Walt Disney himself voiced Mickey Mouse for many years.

I found a fascinating fact! Mickey Mouse started off as a rabbit. Before Walt Disney created Mickey Mouse he created Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Who because of issues became the Mickey Mouse we know and love.

    Mickey has a big family.

His nephews Morty and Ferdie are the more well known, but there are also grandparents, a dozen cousins, uncles, including Uncle Maxwell, a professor called Cousin Digger, an Australian rancher and Uncle Louie, a French chef.

    And my personal favorite

In the US Mickey’s name is often used as a protest vote.

Instead of people ticking none of the above, they often opt to write in his name.

An election supervisor in Georgia said: “If Mickey Mouse doesn’t get votes in our election, it’s a bad election.” I think I’d like Mickey Mouse for president lol

Mickey mouse wears white gloves so you can see his hands
