This was my first Harlan Coben book and I’m not sure why I haven’t heard about him before, being an 8 times New York bestseller and all you’d think I’d know but somehow he slipped past my radar. Thankfully Penguin Books tapped me on the shoulder and introduced us with an ARC of Fool Me Once!
I love thrillers thrown into my usual mix and this piece of work by Coben is pure genius.
Fool Me Once is a tale of a disgraced combat veteran whose homefront life is turned upside down by an image captured by her nanny cam. The story seems plain and simple enough as it starts, a wife attempting to keep it all together for the sake of her daughter after witnessing her husbands murder but it very quickly takes a turn and another and another. Leaving you trying to catch your breath and failing.
Why I loved it
The last time I read a thriller that gripped me this hard and had so many turns I was left feeling like I’d just played a game of twisters was probably Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. It was so incredibly fascinating that I sort of forgot all about the world around me and read the entire book in one sitting. This book will keep you on the edge of seat.
Fool Me Once is the type of story where you find yourself hanging on the author’s every word. You NEED to know what’s next.
